A week filled with Dungeon World.

A drop-in, drop-out series of Dungeon World games from November 6th to November 11th

What is Dungeon Week?

From November 6th until November 11th, I am running a game of Dungeon World every evening

A whole campaign, compressed in a week

I'll be hosting a three-hour game of Dungeon World every evening from 20:00 CET until 23:00 from November 6th upto November 11th 2016.

This allows me and the players to get a good chunk of story in, but instead of returning to the game once every week (or even once every two weeks!), we'll be playing every single night!

Dungeon World

Dungeon World is a tabletop roleplaying game of high adventure and dungeon crawling, powered by the Apocalypse World engine. Most of the rules are available free of charge in the form of an SRD too!

The rules of Dungeon World are aimed at keeping the game moving, and to sollicit player input in what happens next. It also doesn't require lots of preparation by the GM, which makes it ideally suited for a project like this.

Drop-in, Drop-out

I understand that playing in a game every evening every day for a week is a pretty big commitment. If I hadn't been off work for that week, I wouldn't be able to make it either!

That is why the campaign will be aimed at 'drop-in, drop-out' play. You can join for a session, then miss the next two, and then join again for the fourth session with the same character! Of maybe you would join only for a single session - that's fun too!

Streamed live

The game will be streamed live on my Twitch.tv channel. It remains to be seen how many viewers we will get, but the game is meant to be equally entertaining for viewers as it is for the players!

In the end, all the streams will end up on YouTube for later viewing.

You can participate in two ways: either as a player or as a viewer

Any roleplaying game needs players, and you are most welcome to join one or more of the games! It doesn't matter if you have experience with playing tabletop RPGs or not: Dungeon World is quite easy to grasp without having to study a whole rulebook in advance!

You do not need to be able to make all of the games - in fact, you can join just one game, or just some.

If you are interested, take a look at what you will need! If you want to know more, then get into contact to get your questions answered.

Interested, but not up to playing? Then come and watch us! All the games will be streamed live on my Twitch.tv channel!

You can watch the game and chat with the players and other viewers. And we will try to get some audience participation going, in the form of polls where the viewers can influence the direction of the game!

Not able to join the game 'live'? The games will stay up on Twitch.tv for two weeks and will also be uploaded to YouTube for your later viewing pleasure!

What do I need?

Everything you will need to join as a player

You will need the following hardware:

  • A computer with a reliable internet connection, capable of sending and receiving HD video. 4Mbit seems to be the minimum
  • A headset. We don't want a microphone that picks up every ambient sound!
  • A webcam

You will need the following software:

  • A modern browser. I recommend Chrome (or Chromium)
  • An account with Roll20. We will be using it for the character sheets and rolling dice
  • An account on Twitch.tv so you can keep up with the live chat

You will need to be able to play from a private environment. Since the game will be streamed live and made available on YouTube later, you probably do not want to show your domestic particularities to the rest of the world!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When is this happening?

A: From November 6th to November 11th, 20:00 until 23:00 CET (Amsterdam time). You can use Worldtime Buddy to convert that to your local timezone.

Q: I have no experience with tabletop roleplaying games. Can I still join?

A: Yes. Dungeon World has a rules-light approach and its focus on the narrative makes it easy for new players to get into. Check out this "Welcome to Dungeon Week" video wherein I talk a bit about RPGs in general and Dungeon World in particular. You are especially welcome to join!

Q: I have no experience with playing roleplaying games online. Can I still join?

A: Yes. It's not that different from sitting around the table once you get everything set up. I can help you with that.

Q: How can I join?

A: Contact me for more information. I will get in touch with you once we're ready to begin scheduling.

Q: How many players are you looking for?

A: I want to have four players per session.

Q: Can you help me create a character and get acquainted with the rules?

A: Yes. I have a video that shows how to create a character. But if you need more help, we can get through character creation together!

Q: What playbooks do you allow?

A: I'd like to keep it simple and play only with the standard playbooks: the Barbarian, the Bard, the Cleric, the Druid, the Fighter, the Immolator, the Paladin, the Ranger, the Thief and the Wizard.

Q: Will you enforce niche protection?

A: I will try to ensure that any new characters do not overlap with the characters of returning players. However, it is possible we will get multiple characters with the same playbook when two characters return after a hiatus. That shouldn't be a problem.

Q: Are there any special rules?

A: Yes. If you miss one or more sessions and then return, you get to use the following extra move:
I'm Back!
When you explain your absence from the last session, say what happened and roll. If you..

  • fought a monster or escaped imprisonment, roll+STR
  • did something secret, stole something, or evaded something, roll+DEX
  • trained under a mentor or acquired help or resources, roll+CON
  • learned ancient knowledge or invented something, roll+INT
  • discovered a secret or had a divine encounter, roll+WIS
  • made an ally or learned about a culture, roll+CHA
On a 10+ you had a prosperous leave and take +1 forward on what you learned. On 7-9 you attracted trouble during your absence and the consequences may catch up with you.
